The Moy Country Fair committee met at the end of last week to review the circumstances which led to the difficult decisions to close of the Fair early on the afternoon of Friday 8 August, and then to cancel the Fair on Saturday 9 August. We are satisfied that we could not ignore the severity of the actual and forecast gusting winds, and that the actions we took were correct.
In these circumstances, public safety is and will always be our primary concern. That is something which event organisers often say, but usually only after something devastating has happened. We did not want to be in that position, so the financial impact was not a relevant consideration for us.
The financial consequences have however been significant for the Fair and our traders, exhibitors and the charities and local community groups which we support, which is what the Fair is all about. We are grateful for the widespread goodwill for the Fair which has been evident since the event. We are still assessing the financial implications but we are hopeful that with the generosity and support of all our friends and supporters, we will be able to return in 2026
We will make a further announcement as soon as we are able to do so.
