Clay Shooting Organised by the Loch Ness Gun Club For the shooting man, a big attraction at the Fair is the popular and growing sport of Clay Target Shooting. Scotland has a particularly strong following for the sport and this has resulted in Scotland having considerable success in competitions throughout the UK and indeed the world. Loch Ness Gun Club are one of Scotland's leading clay shooting clubs and have been organising the Clay Shooting at the Fair for many years and for over 30 years at their permanent site in Glenmoriston. They host club, Scottish selection shoots and International competitions throughout the year and have a membership of over 100. The sporting layout simulates what the game shooter would meet in the field. There are five stands at this year's Fair comprising of 1) Fur and Feather: 2) Springing Teal: 3) Settling Pigeon: 4) Woodcock and 5) High Pheasant. The Down the Line layout provides competition for the trap shooter. This is one of the oldest disciplines of clay target shooting and is very popular throughout the Highlands. The shooter is faced with clay targets being thrown randomly from an oscillating trap. It is enjoyable to watch and a must for the visitor to the Fair. The DTL competition is very popular at the Fair and it is recommended to enter early to avoid the queues. There is also a novice stand for beginners. This allows anyone to have a go at clay target shooting regardless of age under expert supervision. Hire of shotgun, cartridges, clays, ear protection and instruction are included in the price of entry (£3.00 for 5 shots or £5.00 for 10 shots). The sporting and DTL competition will run between 10am and 6pm each day with prizes awarded both days with a High Gun over the two days for the sporting. It should be noted that ALL surplus income from the clay shooting goes to charity. Due to the popularity of the clay shooting it has been decided to DOUBLE the prize money offered to encourage more entries so that more money can be given to local charities. One lucky competitor could pick up £700.00 in prize money over the two days! PROGRAMME (Both Days)
The Royal Bank of Scotland Perpetual Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the Sporting High Gun over the two days.
12 Bore and 20 Bore cartridges will be on sale at the Clay Shooting tent for the duration of the Fair. Competitors are encouraged to buy cartridges as a percentage of each box sold will be donated to local charities. If the clay target shooting at the Fair whets your appetite for more then contact any committee member of Loch Ness Gun Club who will advise you of the shoots they hold all year round, or via their website |
